LensCrafters was founded in 1983 by optometrist Dr. Dean Butler. As an eye doctor in a small town, Dr. Butler saw firsthand how difficult and expensive getting glasses could be for his patients. At the time, the optical industry was dominated by high-priced retailers that required weeks-long waits for glasses. Dr. Butler dreamed of creating an optical shop that could provide quality prescription glasses in about an hour, at an affordable price.
The first LensCrafters store opened in Dayton, Ohio in 1984. Using innovative technology and processes, Dr. Butler’s vision became reality – customers could walk out of the store with their new glasses in around 60 minutes. The speed and value offered by LensCrafters was unprecedented in optical retail, and began gaining popularity.
Over the next decade, LensCrafters expanded rapidly across the United States. In most locations, LensCrafters has an independent doctor of optometry conveniently located next door or inside the store. Customers can receive a comprehensive eye health exam and prescription all in one place. Our optometrists have access to advanced diagnostic technology, allowing them to accurately assess visual function and detect various eye conditions. We make scheduling eye exams quick and easy – book online or just walk in.
Prescription Glasses
We proudly offer one of the largest selections of prescription glasses from over 100 designer and exclusive brands like Ray-Ban, Coach, Oakley and our own LensCrafters collection. Our knowledgeable opticians will guide customers in choosing the perfect pair of eyeglasses based on their needs, style, face shape, and budget. Then, we custom-cut quality lenses on-site to match their prescription in about one hour.
Contact Lens Fittings
Our optometrists can provide expert contact lens fittings, evaluating which types suit patients’ eyes best. We offer 30-day trials of major contact lens brands and teach new wearers how to properly insert, remove, and care for their contacts. Customers can join our contact lens membership program for added savings and convenience.
Sunglasses
Along with optical frames, LensCrafters carries a variety of non-prescription designer sunglasses. We offer lens treatments like polarization and sun protection coatings for maximum UV blocking and visual clarity.
