🙋🏽‍♀️ Recipe FAQs

What are soy curls made of?

Soy curlsaremade ofnon-GMOwhole soybeansthat are processed without chemicals and packaged with neither additives nor preservatives. I use the Butler brand which is easily available on Amazon.
Soy curls have a meaty texture and taste just like chicken.

Are soy curls good for you?

Soy curls are a healthy meat alternative. They're rich in fiber and protein and contain no sodium or cholesterol. Additionally, they're very versatile and easily absorb the flavor of sauces and marinades.
I add them to pasta, salads, and sandwiches for added protein.

Is peanut butter healthy?

Peanut butter contains a range of nutrients that may offer health-boosting benefits. However, it is important to check the label when buying peanut butter. Many brands add ingredients like sugar, sodium, and vegetable oil that can reduce its nutritional value.Look for ones that contain no additives, and either have no added salt or are low in sodium. You can also make peanut butter at home by blending peanuts in a high-speed blender until the desired consistency.
While peanut butter does contain a small percentage of saturated fat, it's very rich in heart-healthy unsaturated fats. The presence of saturated fat doesn't automatically make it an unhealthy food. Numerous studies have shown that people who regularly include nuts or peanut butter in their diets are less likely to develop heart disease or type 2 diabetes than those who rarely eat nuts.

My first encounter with soy curls but definitely worth repeating. I have also made with recipe with regular pan fried firm tofu cubes and the sauce is super delicious for my non vegetarian people in the family who drizzled it on stir fried chicken breast.

    FAQs

How do they make Butler soy curls? ›

We soak the beans in spring water (no chlorine). Then the beans are stirred while being cooked. Soy Curls™ are dried at low temperature thus ensuring the natural goodness of the whole soybean high in fiber and omega-3.

How much water do you use for soy curls? ›

Place soy curls in a bowl then pour 2 cups boiled water over soy curls. Let stand 10 minutes to rehydrate. Drain and pat dry, squeezing liquid out of the soy curls(I use my salad spinner to remove liquid then pat dry in a towel).

How to make soy curls from soy beans? ›

Soy curls are made of non-GMO soybeans. The process of making them starts with soaking the soybeans in water. They're then cooked and stirred to break the beans down into mush. Then the mush is extruded (i.e., pushed through a small opening) into stringy shapes, which are dried at a low temperature.

How many cups in a bag of soy curls? ›

bag of Soy Curls™ (approx. 2 1/2 cups) in a container large enough to cover with warm water and soak for 8-10 minutes to re-hydrate, then drain excess water.

How do you make soy curls not chewy? ›

Oil: I recommend using the full 2 tablespoons of oil if you want the soy curls to have crispy edges; if you do not care as much about that, you can reduce the oil to 2-3 teaspoons. If you are oil-free you can sauté the soy curls in water or vegetable broth, but I personally find them a little too rubbery this way.

Are Butler soy curls highly processed? ›

Minimally processed. Free from preservatives, additives, and protein isolates. Free from added sugar, salt, and oil, unlike other meat alternatives. High in protein, fiber, iron, and potassium.

Can you over soak soy curls? ›

📖 Instructions. Soy curls come dehydrated and require soaking before use. Soak in warm water for 10 minutes. Be careful not to soak for too long or they will become mushy.

Do you have to soak soy curls? ›

Soy curls come dehydrated, so you will need to soak them in hot water to reconstitute them first. They have a nice chewy texture and a very neutral flavor, so they're a great canvas for any of your favorite spices and sauces.

What can I substitute for soy curls? ›

Soy Curl Substitute: while soy curls can be easy to find in some parts of the world, they can be very difficult to find, or very costly in other places. Soy Chunks, Soya Chunks, TVP Chunks are all basically the same thing, just in different shapes, so try looking out for these instead.

How long do soy curls last? ›

Once rehydrated though, they're best enjoyed as soon as possible. Cooked or par-cooked soy curls can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. If you don't think you'll eat them that quickly, stash leftovers in the freezer for 4 to 6 months.

Do soy curls make you gassy? ›

How much do soy curls expand? ›

Soy Curls come dry and need to be rehydrated in order to cook them. They will increase in size as they soak, so an 8-ounce package will actually weigh about 1½ pounds after it's been rehydrated. You need to soak for only about 10 minutes.

Do soy curls need to be cooked? ›

Yes. But if you put them in the food processor when they're dry, you may end up with a lot of powder. I like to rehydrate my soy curls first, and then usually cook them in whatever seasonings I want, then food process.

Are soy curls ultra processed? ›

If you're new to soy curls, don't panic! They might seem super processed or hard to work with, but they're actually neither. Soy curls are minimally processed. They're made by pressing soy beans and drying them out.

Are soy curls considered processed? ›

These protein-packed strips are different than soy products like tofu and tempeh because they are considered minimally processed. According to Butler Foods, soy curls are made by boiling whole non-GMO soybeans in water. They contain no other additives or preservatives.

Where are Butler soy curls made? ›

If the city of Portland had an official food product, a case could be made for it being the soy curl. The long, brown shreds of soy protein were invented nearby, in Grand Ronde, Ore., by family-owned Butler Foods, and local vegans can't get enough of them.

Are soy curls plant based? ›
