VOLUNTEERS FOR THE BLIND Volunteers are needed in the sevencounty South Jersey area, two to three hours each week to provide assistance to a blind or visually impaired person. ON THE DAILY JOURNAL B3 COMMUNITY BRIEFS HOMES AND GARDENS Youth members of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, along with the Countryside Garden Club, planted a Carolina Silver Bell Tree outside the Building at Cumberland County College (CCC) on April 29, in celebration of Arbor Day. Youth church members Junior Women's The Junior Women's Club of Vineland recently hosted the New Jersey's Second District Spring Conference. The theme, "Surf's Up with the Second District" gave everyone a sense of the season to come. The clubhouse was decorated with beach umbrellas, chairs, towels and other items to remind everyone attending of summer days at the Jersey shore.

Second District Advisor Judy Bonato called the meeting to order and introduced several guests from the state executive board of the GFWC of the State of New Jersey, including President Sandra Johnston. The three Junior Clubs represented in the second district are Vineland and Greater Absecon Junior Women's Clubs and the Vineland Juniorettes. The conference summed up the long list of accomplishments for this club year. Several recognitions were given to each club. A special thanks was given to Mary Wolfe for 11 years of service to the Vineland Juniors.

She will be graduating from the club. The conference concluded with a fashion show presented by Ideal Clothing Co. in Hammonton and modeled by six club members. African communities discussed The condition of African-American communities throughout the State of New Jersey and nationally will be addressed during a three day covening of The New Jersey African-American Studies Conference. "Envisioning the African-American Community Whole" will take place from Thursday to May 14 at the Camden Campus Center of Camden County College. Local and national leaders, community activists and educators have been invited to join with concerned citizens, college and public school students for the purpose of exchanging ideas and establishing goals and objectives for resurrecting the African-American community.
